Jason Wright to Transition to Senior Adviser Role After 2024 Season

In a significant transition for the Washington Commanders' front office, Jason Wright will step down from his current role following the 2024 season. After steering the team through a period marked by transformation and upheaval, Wright will pivot to a new role as a senior adviser. His primary focus in this capacity will be to ensure the successful completion of the Commanders' new stadium deal.

Wright's journey with the franchise began in 2020, a time when the team was known as the Washington Football Team. Over the next few years, he played an instrumental role in rebranding the team to the Washington Commanders in 2022. Under his leadership, the organization also underwent a major ownership change from Dan Snyder to Josh Harris.

Notably, Wright made history as the first Black president of an NFL team, and only the fourth former player to assume such a position. His background and understanding of the game lent a unique perspective to his leadership approach, contributing to several landmark changes within the organization.

"Given all those accomplishments, that's why I am proud to announce I will remain with the team throughout the 2024-2025 season, with the same responsibilities. In particular, I look forward to helping the organization complete its new stadium deal," said Wright, emphasizing his commitment to the long-term goals of the franchise.

During his tenure, the Commanders witnessed a resurgence in several key areas. Crowds returned in record numbers, showcasing renewed fan interest and engagement. The organization also made significant strides in improving the fan experience, reconnecting with corporate partners, and re-establishing a strong community presence.

"I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished over the past four years. Together with an amazing team of professionals, we have taken this franchise through a period of immense challenge and uncertainty and have transformed it. We've set the table for an incredibly bright future under Josh's leadership. Over just the past year, we've welcomed record numbers of fans back into our building, made meaningful improvements to the fan experience, re-engaged with corporate partners, and reconnected with the community. Most importantly, we re-established a culture of respect in this organization," Wright reflected on his tenure.

Wright's impending departure marks a pivotal moment for the Commanders, yet also for his career. He has been named a finalist for the position of president with the Green Bay Packers, an opportunity that could mark the next chapter in his impressive career.

"This feels like the right moment for me to explore my next leadership opportunity. I'm extremely grateful to my Commanders colleagues, our fans, and this community for all that we have accomplished these past four years, and am looking forward to the start of a very successful season for the Burgundy and Gold," Wright shared, expressing optimism for both his future and the Commanders' path ahead.

As the Commanders prepare to navigate this transition, both the organization and its supporters will undoubtedly reflect on Wright's impactful leadership. His tenure, marked by substantial achievements and historic milestones, has set a positive course for the future of the franchise.

With the new stadium deal on the horizon and a rejuvenated fan base, the Commanders are set for continued growth and success. Meanwhile, Wright's future, whether with the Packers or elsewhere, promises to be equally significant as he seeks out new challenges and opportunities to influence the sports world.
