As the New York Giants march towards their playoff aspirations, one key figure in their offensive arsenal has stepped into the limelight—second-year wide receiver Jalin Hyatt. Drafted in the third round out of Tennessee, Hyatt is not only refining his skills on the field but also adjusting his physical regimen to meet the demands of the grueling NFL season.
Elevating His Game
Standing at 6 feet and weighing 185 pounds, Hyatt has been remarkably candid about his efforts to gain weight, an endeavor that many athletes can relate to. "It's definitely hard for myself (to gain weight). Some guys, it's easier for them to gain weight or gain muscle. For myself, it's harder. I burn a lot of calories quick. I'm just one of those guys that's got to just keep eating," Hyatt explained.
Hyatt's approach to his weight gain regimen is both methodical and unconventional. A significant part of his diet now includes Uncrustables, the frozen, individually wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. "PB&J's was one of my biggest things, because you want to eat your full meal. You don't want to eat a little bit and drink a protein shake. Then you're not really getting anything. So, for myself, finishing, completing your full meals, and then, an hour later or 30 minutes later, that's when you put in an Uncrustables or a PB&J or a little protein shake," Hyatt shared.
Impact on the Field
Hyatt’s dietary changes and hard work have translated into significant contributions on the field. His performance in the 2023 season has been nothing short of impactful. A pivotal moment came in Week 2, where Hyatt's 58-yard reception played a crucial role in the Giants' narrow three-point victory over the Cardinals. This was a sign of things to come, as he continued to deliver when it mattered most.
In Week 7, Hyatt further solidified his position by recording two catches for 75 yards in New York's 14-7 win over the Commanders. With every game, he has shown growth and adaptability, traits that are crucial for any player vying to make a lasting impact on their team.
The highlight of his season thus far came in Week 12, when he notched his first 100-yard receiving game in the NFL. This standout performance was instrumental in the Giants' tight victory over the Patriots, illustrating that Hyatt is becoming an indispensable part of the Giants' offense.
Eyes on the Prize
Despite his individual successes, Hyatt remains focused on the collective goal of the team. "For me, I always set high expectations. Just looking at our team, looking at what we got—for goals, I just want a team goal. We have a playoff team. That's what we want to do. That's our focus and we're gonna get there," Hyatt proclaimed with determination.
As the Giants continue their journey through the season, it is clear that Jalin Hyatt will be a significant figure to watch. His commitment to his physical development, combined with his rising on-field performance, underscores the importance of preparation and persistence in professional sports.
With his sights set on helping the Giants reach the playoffs, fans and analysts alike will be keen to see how Hyatt's contributions help shape the progression of the team. In a sport where every yard and every game counts, Jalin Hyatt is proving to be a player who makes a difference when it counts the most.
